What are 22 overtime hours worth on 500?

A worker on a basic salary of 500 OMR works 10 daytime overtime hours and 4 night overtime hours in the month, and a full 8-hour weekly rest day.

  1. Hourly wage: 500 ÷ 240 = 2.083 OMR
  2. Daytime hours: 10 × 2.083 × 1.25 = 26.042 OMR
  3. Night hours: 4 × 2.083 × 1.5 = 12.500 OMR
  4. Rest day: 8 × 2.083 × 2 = 33.333 OMR

The total is 26.042 + 12.500 + 33.333 = 71.875 OMR for 22 hours, or a day off in place of the rest day's pay.

How do daytime, night and rest-day hours differ?

Article 70 sets working hours at 8 actual hours a day and 40 a week. Article 71 allows overtime with the worker's consent, as long as normal and overtime hours together stay within 12 a day, and pays it at the basic wage for those hours plus at least 25% by day and at least 50% at night, or time off instead.

Night working hours run from nine in the evening to five in the morning (Article 1). Work on a weekly rest day or an official holiday earns a cash amount equal to 100% of the daily basic wage plus the wage for the day itself, which is twice the day's wage, or a day off for each day worked. The article pays by the day, so enter 8 hours for each such day.

The calculator works out the hourly wage as the basic salary divided by 240, that is 30 days × 8 hours, because the law sets no monthly divisor. Overtime an employer imposes without consent, in the cases Article 72 allows such as the annual inventory or preventing an accident, pays more: at least 50% by day and 75% at night, and 200% of the basic wage plus the day's wage on a rest day or holiday. The calculator does not work out that case.

  • Hourly wage = basic salary ÷ 240 (30 days × 8 hours)
  • Daytime overtime: 125% of the hourly wage; night, 9 pm to 5 am: 150% (Article 71)
  • Rest day or official holiday: the day's wage plus 100% of the daily basic wage, or a day off
  • Normal and overtime hours together: no more than 12 a day, and only with consent
