How it's calculated
Under Article 74 of Qatar Labour Law No. 14 of 2004, every hour worked beyond normal working hours is paid at the wage for that hour plus at least 25%. The calculator derives the hourly wage by dividing the monthly basic salary by 240, that is 30 days × 8 hours.
The premium rises to at least 50% when the hours fall between 9 pm and 4 am on a working day. Note that Qatar's night window opens at 21:00, not the 22:00 used in the UAE, so a single hour can move your pay from a 25% premium to a 50% one.
If you work on your weekly rest day, Friday, Article 75 gives you a substitute rest day and enhanced pay for that day. This calculator applies 150%; the wording of the article is open to a higher reading, so compare the result with your payslip. Qatar has no separate public-holiday line for overtime, because work on a public holiday follows the rest-day rule.

- Regular overtime: hourly wage × 125% at the least (Article 74)
- Hours between 9 pm and 4 am on a working day: hourly wage × 150% at the least (Article 74)
- Work on the weekly rest day: a substitute rest day plus enhanced pay, taken here as 150% (Article 75)
Worked example
An employee with a basic salary of 6,000 QAR works 10 regular overtime hours, 4 hours after 9 pm, and 8 hours on the weekly rest day, all in the same month.
- Hourly wage: 6,000 ÷ 240 = 25 QAR
- Regular overtime: 10 × 25 × 1.25 = 312.50 QAR
- Night hours: 4 × 25 × 1.5 = 150 QAR
- Rest-day hours: 8 × 25 × 1.5 = 300 QAR
Total: 312.50 + 150 + 300 = 762.50 QAR for 22 hours, paid on top of the monthly salary. A substitute rest day is still due for the Friday worked, under Article 75.
FAQ
What is the overtime premium in Qatar?
At least 25% on top of the hourly wage for every hour beyond normal working hours, rising to at least 50% for hours falling between 9 pm and 4 am, under Article 74. These are minimums, so your contract or company policy may set more.
When do night hours start in Qatar?
At 9 pm, running until 4 am, under Article 74. This trips people up because they apply the UAE rule, where the night window starts at 10 pm; an hour worked at 9 pm in Qatar carries the 50% premium, not 25%.
I worked on Friday. What am I owed?
Article 75 gives you a substitute rest day and enhanced pay for that day. The calculator applies 150%, and the wording of the article is open to a higher reading, so compare the figure with your payslip and raise it with your employer if it differs.
Is there a special rate for public holidays?
Qatari law sets no separate public-holiday line in the overtime rules; work on a public holiday follows the weekly rest-day rule instead. That is why the Qatar page does not show a separate public-holiday row.
How is the hourly wage worked out from a monthly salary?
Divide the monthly basic salary by 30 days and then by 8 hours, that is by 240. A basic salary of 6,000 QAR gives an hourly wage of 25 QAR, a regular overtime rate of 31.25 QAR and a night rate of 37.50 QAR.
Do allowances count towards the overtime rate?
This calculator derives the hourly wage from the monthly basic salary. If your contract or payslip calculates overtime on a wage that includes allowances, the amount actually due is higher than the figure shown here, so check your payslip.
