  • SANED covers Saudi subscribers only, under the age of 60 (Article 8).
  • If your compensation comes to less than the job-seeker allowance set by law, it is raised to that amount, but not above your average wage (Article 12). The calculator does not apply this floor.
  • Register with the Human Resources Development Fund (Hadaf) within 90 days of leaving work (Article 10).
  • SANED pays at most twelve months within any 24 months, counted from the first payment (Article 13), so months already paid in that time come off this claim.
  • Payment also depends on being able to work, having no income from work, and searching for a job and taking the training the Fund sets.

How is SANED compensation calculated?

  1. Average wage = contributory wages of the last 24 months ÷ 24
  2. Months 1 to 3 = the smaller of 60% × average wage and 9,000
  3. Months 4 to 12 = the smaller of 50% × average wage and 7,500

What does SANED pay on a 10,000 wage?

A Saudi employee whose average contributory wage over the last 24 months is 10,000 SAR loses their job when the employer ends the contract, after 24 months of work. It is their first claim.

  1. Months 1 to 3: 60% × 10,000 = 6,000 SAR a month, under the 9,000 cap
  2. Months 4 to 12: 50% × 10,000 = 5,000 SAR a month, under the 7,500 cap
  3. Full claim: 3 × 6,000 + 9 × 5,000 = 63,000 SAR

SANED pays 6,000 SAR a month for the first three months and 5,000 SAR after that, 63,000 SAR if the claim runs all twelve months.

What does SANED pay, and who qualifies?

SANED is Saudi Arabia's unemployment insurance, run by the General Organization for Social Insurance under the Unemployment Insurance Law, Royal Decree No. M/18 dated 12/3/1435H, which has applied since 1 September 2014. A Saudi subscriber and their employer each pay 0.75% of the contributory wage into it, and it pays compensation to a subscriber who loses a job for reasons outside their control.

Article 11 pays 60% of the average monthly contributory wage for each of the first three months of a claim and 50% for each month after, and Article 12 caps those at 9,000 SAR and 7,500 SAR a month. The average is the total contributory wage of the last 24 months of subscription divided by 24. A claim pays for twelve months at most, together or apart, and never more than twelve months within any 24 (Article 13).

A first claim needs at least 12 months of covered work in the 36 months before it, a second 18, a third 24, and any later claim 36 months in the 48 before it (Article 14). SANED pays nothing to a subscriber who resigned, agreed with the employer to end the contract or turned down its renewal, or was dismissed under Article 80 of the Labor Law.

  • Months 1 to 3: 60% of the average contributory wage, up to 9,000 SAR a month
  • Months 4 to 12: 50% of the average, up to 7,500 SAR a month
  • Average wage = contributory wages of the last 24 months ÷ 24
  • A first claim needs 12 months of covered work in the last 36, later claims more

Questions about SANED compensation

How much does SANED pay a month?

60% of your average monthly contributory wage for each of the first three months, up to 9,000 SAR, then 50% for each month after, up to 7,500 SAR, for twelve months at most (Articles 11 to 13).

Who is eligible for SANED compensation?

A Saudi subscriber under 60 who lost a job for reasons outside their control, is able to work, has no income from work, registers with the Human Resources Development Fund within 90 days, and has worked long enough in covered jobs: 12 months in the last 36 for a first claim (Articles 8, 10 and 14).

Can I get SANED if I resign?

No. Article 8 excludes leaving work by your own choice, and the Implementing Regulation counts resigning, agreeing with the employer to end the contract, and turning down the renewal of a fixed-term contract as that. A fixed-term contract that ends because the employer does not renew it qualifies, GOSI says, if the other conditions are met.

How is the average wage worked out?

It is one twenty-fourth of the total contributory wages over your last 24 months of subscription (Article 11). The contributory wage is the one GOSI registers you on: basic salary plus housing allowance.

How many months of work do I need?

12 months of covered work in the 36 months before a first claim, 18 in 36 for a second, 24 in 36 for a third, and 36 in the 48 months before any later claim (Article 14).

Does SANED pay for the full twelve months?

Only while you stay unemployed and keep to its conditions: payment stops if you earn from work, stop looking for work or training, leave Saudi Arabia, or turn 60 with a pension due (Article 15). It is also limited to twelve months within any 24 (Article 13).
