Bahrain Labour Law, Article 58: annual leave
What your unused leave is worth in BHD: two and a half days for every month.

How is leave pay calculated in Bahrain?
- Annual leave: 30 days, that is 2.5 days a month
- Unused balance = accrued − taken
- Daily rate = (basic + social allowance) ÷ 30
- Leave pay = unused balance × daily rate
Symbols
- social allowance
- Added to the basic where there is one (Article 47): enter it with the basic salary
- balance
- Leave days earned over your service and not yet taken
What are 70 days of leave worth on an 800 basic?
A worker on a basic wage of 800 BHD with a 200 BHD housing allowance and no social allowance has 3 years of service and has taken 20 days of leave.
- Completed months: 3 × 12 = 36 months
- Days accrued: 36 × 2.5 = 90 days
- Unused balance: 90 − 20 = 70 days
- Daily rate on the basic: 800 ÷ 30 = 26.667 BHD
- Leave pay: 70 × 26.667 = 1,866.667 BHD
The worker is owed 1,866.667 BHD for the balance. On the full wage with the housing allowance it would come to 2,333.333 BHD, but Article 47 pays the balance on the basic wage and the social allowance alone.
How is leave earned, and which wage pays out the balance?
Article 58 gives a worker who has served a year at least 30 days of paid annual leave, at two and a half days a month, and a worker with less than a year leave in proportion to the time served. So leave is earned from the first month.
Article 59 requires the employer to settle the leave balance and its pay at least every two years, and if employment ends before the balance is used, the worker is owed its pay. That right is lost for leave the employer scheduled if the worker is shown to have refused it in writing.
Article 47 sets the wage the balance is paid on: the last basic wage plus the social allowance, if any, not the wage with all allowances. So the calculator pays the balance on the basic salary; if you receive a social allowance, add it to the basic. Pay while you are actually on leave is the full wage.
- Annual leave: 30 days, at 2.5 days a month (Article 58)
- Less than a year of service earns leave in proportion
- The balance on leaving is paid (Article 59) on the last basic wage plus the social allowance (Article 47)
- Daily rate for the balance = (basic + social allowance) ÷ 30
