When you reach the statutory age for a pension, and which law sets it for you.
Enter your date of birth and the contribution months you had before the new Social Insurance Law took effect on 3 July 2024 to see your statutory pension age and the day you reach it. The new law sets the age at 65, but Royal Decree M/273 kept the previous law, with its sixty Hijri years, for people who already had contribution months, except those with fewer than 240 months who were under 48 years and 6 months, whose age comes from a transitional table.

How is the retirement age worked out?
- Age on 3 July 2024 = whole months from the date of birth to that day
- No earlier months: retirement date = date of birth + 65 Gregorian years
- Fewer than 240 earlier months and under 48 years 6 months: date of birth + the table's age
- Anyone else: Hijri date of birth + 60 Hijri years
Symbols
- earlier months
- Contribution months before 3 July 2024 that were not compensated (item Second of Royal Decree M/273)
- the table
- 65 for anyone under 29, four months less for each year older, down to 58 years and 4 months (item Fifth)
When does someone born in 1990 reach retirement age?
A Saudi employee born on 15 May 1990 had 60 months of contributions before 3 July 2024, none of them compensated.
- Age on 3 July 2024: 34 years and 1 month
- 60 earlier months is fewer than 240, and 34 is under 48 years and 6 months: the transitional table applies
- The table's age for 34 and under 35: 63 years
- 15 May 1990 plus 63 years: 15 May 2053
The statutory age is reached on 15 May 2053. With no earlier months it would have been 65, on 15 May 2055.
Which law sets your retirement age?
The new Social Insurance Law was issued by Royal Decree No. M/273 dated 26/12/1445H and applies from the day after it was issued, 3 July 2024. Its Article 16 sets the statutory age for a pension at 65, counted in Gregorian years (Article 2), and pays a pension at that age once contributions reach the period the Council of Ministers sets, which is 180 months. A pension can start up to 120 months earlier for a subscriber who has stopped work and has 360 months of contributions.
The new law does not apply to subscribers who already had contribution months they were not compensated for, under the Social Insurance Law or the Civil Retirement Law: the previous laws continue for them (items Second and Fourth of the decree). The previous Social Insurance Law pays a pension at sixty full years once contributions reach 120 months, or before sixty once they reach 300, and its regulations count age in the Hijri calendar.
Item Fifth of the decree makes an exception for subscribers whose earlier months came to fewer than 240 and who had not reached 50 Hijri years on 3 July 2024, counting anyone who had reached 48 years and 6 months that day as having reached them. Anyone under 29 on that day has a statutory age of 65, and it falls by four months for each year older, down to 58 years and 4 months. A pension can start before that age once contributions reach 360 months if the earlier months were fewer than 180, or from 348 down to 300 months depending on how many there were.
- No contribution months before 3 July 2024: 65, in Gregorian years
- Fewer than 240 earlier months and under 48 years and 6 months that day: the transitional table, from 65 down to 58 years and 4 months
- Anyone else with earlier months: 60 Hijri years, under the previous law
- Early pension: after 360 months under the new law, 300 under the previous one
Questions about the retirement age
What is the retirement age under the new Social Insurance Law?
65, in Gregorian years (Article 16), for anyone with no uncompensated contribution months from before 3 July 2024. The pension is paid at that age once contributions reach 180 months, or up to 120 months earlier for someone who has stopped work and has 360 months of contributions.
Did the new law raise my retirement age if I contributed before it?
Not always. Someone with earlier contribution months stays under the previous law and its sixty Hijri years, unless those months came to fewer than 240 and they were under 48 years and 6 months on 3 July 2024. Then the transitional table sets the age: 65 for anyone under 29 that day, then four months less for each year older, down to 58 years and 4 months (items Fourth and Fifth of Royal Decree M/273).
Why is the age counted in Hijri years under the previous law?
The previous law's Benefits Regulation counts age in the Hijri calendar, and takes the Hijri date that matches a Gregorian date of birth (Article 37). Sixty Hijri years are about 21 months shorter than sixty Gregorian years.
When can I take early retirement?
Under the new law, up to 120 months before 65, once you have stopped covered work and have 360 months of contributions. Under the transitional table, after 360 months if you had fewer than 180 months before 3 July 2024, or after 348 down to 300 if you had more. Under the previous law, at any age before sixty once you have 300 months and are no longer covered by it (Article 38).
Which contribution months count as uncompensated?
The months you contributed under the Social Insurance Law or the Civil Retirement Law before 3 July 2024 that you were not paid compensation for. The decree keeps the previous laws for subscribers who have such months, so the number to enter is the one your GOSI contribution record shows.
