See your exact last working day, and the first day you are out of the relationship.
Enter the date you handed in your resignation or received notice, and the notice days in your contract. You get the first day of the notice period, your last working day, and the first day you are free of the contract. It is counted in calendar days, weekends included. The statutory notice in Saudi Arabia: 60 days when the employer terminates and 30 on resignation (Article 75).

How is the last working day calculated?
- First day of notice = notice date + 1, or the notice date itself if that is what you agreed
- Last working day = first day of notice + days − 1
- First day outside the relationship = last working day + 1
- The statutory period is at least 30 days, and 60 days is the usual figure
Symbols
- days
- Calendar days: weekends and public holidays fall inside the period and do not extend it
- the statutory period
- 60 days or 30 days depending on which side ends the relationship, and a shorter period does not bind you however the contract is worded
- last working day
- A full working day on full pay, not the day you stop; wages run to the end of it
When does notice given on 10 March run out?
An employee who resigned on 10 March 2026 with thirty days of notice starting the following day:
- Notice given: 10 March 2026
- First day of notice: 11 March 2026
- Notice days: 30 calendar days
- Last working day: 9 April 2026
- First day free of the contract: 10 April 2026
Had the contract counted the day notice was given, the last working day would be 8 April instead. One day changes the final day's pay and the date a visa transfer can start.
Do weekends and holidays count towards notice?
Notice runs in calendar days, not working days: Fridays, Saturdays and public holidays all fall inside it. That is the first thing hand-counting gets wrong.
The second is where the count starts. By default notice runs from the day after it is given, so the day you hand it in does not count. Some contracts say otherwise, which is why the tool has a switch that moves the start and the end with it.
The length you enter is checked against what Arts. 75 and 76 sets. If it falls below the statutory minimum you get a warning, because a term that undercuts the law does not bind you. If your employer pays you in lieu instead of having you serve it, your real last working day is the termination date and the payment is worked out on the notice pay calculator.
- Notice is in calendar days, and holidays fall inside it
- First day of notice = notice date + 1 by default
- Last working day = first day of notice + days minus 1
- First day free = last working day + 1
- A period below the statutory minimum does not bind you
Questions about the notice period
Is notice counted in working days or calendar days?
Calendar days. Weekends and public holidays fall inside the period and do not extend it, so 60 days of notice runs for 60 days on the calendar rather than 12 working weeks. That is why counting by hand usually disagrees with the tool.
Does the day I resign count towards the notice?
By default no: notice starts the following day, so 60 days handed in on 10 March run to 9 May rather than 8 May. Some contracts do count the day itself, which is why there is a switch for it, and it moves your last working day by a full day.
What if my employer tells me not to come in during notice?
Being told not to attend is not the same as the contract ending: you remain employed and are owed pay to the last day of the notice period. If instead they end it immediately and pay in lieu, your last working day is the termination date and the payment is worked out separately.
Can we agree a shorter notice period?
An agreement below the minimum set by Arts. 75 and 76 does not bind the weaker party. The tool warns you when the period entered falls under the minimum, so you know where you stand before signing or walking.
Does the notice period affect end-of-service gratuity?
Yes. Service runs to your last working day, so notice you serve counts towards it. In Saudi Arabia, the rate steps from half a month to a full month a year at 5 years, so notice you actually serve can carry you over that line. Use the final settlement calculator to see the full effect.
